The Heart of Detroit
Waldorf School
The Detroit Waldorf School adopted the Accessible Tuition (AT) Program in 2009 to align itself more fully with the school’s mission: to provide a rich and dynamic pre-K-8th grade Waldorf education to a geographically, racially, and socio-economically diverse student body in Detroit and Southeast Michigan.
The Accessible Tuition Program ensures a Waldorf education is available to all families who seek it, regardless of their financial situation. Detroit Waldorf School’s Accessible Tuition Committee and the family work together to create a tuition agreement that benefits all involved. This collaborative process demands deep trust, respect, and acceptance of varied circumstances and resources beyond just household income.
Since its inception, the unparalleled benefits of our AT Program have been a critical factor in what makes our school community thrive, offering greater accessibility to Waldorf education and significantly increasing enrollment. The program fosters a diverse community by bringing together families from across Detroit and Southeast Michigan who value Waldorf education.
Over 40% of Detroit Waldorf School students participate in the AT Program, which equates to approximately $800k in tuition adjustments each year. As the program does not draw from an endowment or a scholarship fund, the Detroit Waldorf School needs your help to sustain the longevity of the Accessible Tuition Program. Give the gift of a Waldorf education today.
