Children grow through predictable developmental phases, and Waldorf works with these natural phases to maximize the learning process at every step. Waldorf's rich and varied curriculum includes rigorous academic work as well as engaging artistic and practical experiences, all of which are appropriate to the age of each child. This experiential and integrated approach to education engages the intellectual, physical and emotional development of every child.

Waldorf Class Teachers

Waldorf schools value a strong teacher and student relationship. Detroit Waldorf School elementary teachers accompany their students for multiple years, ideally through all eight grades. The class teacher is the primary teacher for math, language arts, social studies and science. Waldorf class teachers are required to have an undergraduate degree and must complete two or more years of specialized Waldorf teacher training. Our students build genuine human relationships with their teacher and the respect, trust and love that develops between teacher and student fosters a supportive learning environment.

Morning Main Lesson

In the elementary and middle school grades, each day begins with a two-hour main lesson during which the core academic work is presented.  The main subjects (language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies) are taught in three-or four-week blocks that rotate through-out the school year. This approach allows students to deeply explore and digest the material.
