Faculty: Leah Armelagos
Sunrise Kindergarten Teacher
Leah Armelagos is the lead teacher of the Sunrise kindergarten. She assisted in the Rainbow Kindergarten for one year and before that, taught high school math for eight years at Cesar Chavez Academy High School. After having her daughter in 2015, she discovered a deep love for the young child and found a home in the Waldorf pedagogy. She pursued her Waldorf teaching certificate in early childhood at the Waldorf Institute of Southeast Michigan and has since graduated. Beforehand, she earned her Masters in Education along with her State teaching certification at University of Michigan - Ann Arbor, and her Bachelor of Arts in English with a minor in Mathematics at Wayne State University. She is married and has two children; the youngest currently attends DWS.
When she is not engaged with all things Waldorf, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, going on adventures in nature, camping, hiking, and swimming. She loves to needle felt, knit, and sew and is intrigued by spirituality in all capacities. She feels the magic most in circle time with her class, sitting across a table, drinking coffee with a dear friend, or when she prepares a warm, home-cooked meal for her family.
