To arrive at the foot of Civita di Bagnoregio is to discover a place that until then only existed in dreams: the ultimate Italian Hill town preserved by a rich and splendid history and by the love of its current inhabitants. Entering the old town by walking over its footbridge and going through its Etruscan gateway is like stepping back in time 600 years to rediscover the beauty and peace of a different way of life. The town appears almost made of gold and silver - the gold of the tufa rock of its cliffs and houses, the silver of its basalt paved streets. Like a jewel that was eroded by time only to preserve its most beautiful core, Civita will transport you to a place of wonder and poetry. Civita’s most illustrious citizen, the philosopher Saint Bonaventure, once said “sentiment penetrates where intelligence does not reach”and the town in many ways represents just that...a place to get lost in, beyond our understanding of it. By restoring a small piece of the town with our home we wanted to partake of the magic that enticed us when we first fell in love with the town. The restoration of Domus Civita was first of all an homage to a town that survived earthquakes and landslides, war and famine, and found its rightful place in our modern world; and, secondly an attempt to provide a unique experience of serenity, beauty and respite for the discerning traveler and lover of Italy.

The house is located in the town of Civita di Bagnoregio at one of the highest points which is the site of the old Etruscan acropolis. Civita is located in the northern most corner of the Lazio region at the border of Tuscany and Umbria.

Welcome to The Cochrane House! This Luxury Historic Inn is an art-filled, 19th century mansion in Detroit’s picturesque Brush Park. Stay in their beautiful Rhythm Section Lounge Suite for the night and enjoy the suite’s many amenities, including breakfast in the morning. This room has views of Comerica Park stadium, Ford Field, the Fox Theatre, and Downtown Detroit. This room totals 600 sq. ft, has a queen sized bed, and a separate living area. Included in this room is a private ensuite bathroom with double sinks, a two person steam shower bundled with bath and body products.That evening, have a delicious dinner at Oak + Reel ($250 value) helmed by Michelin-starred chef Jared Gadbaw, and named HOUR Magazine’s 2022 Restaurant of the Year. In 1968-69, as part of their 3rd grade farming block, our very first graduating class at DWS planted a willow tree on the school grounds. This large and flowing willow became a fixture on the playground and oftentimes graduating classes took their class photo using the tree as a backdrop. As many of you know, our mighty willow reached the end of its tree life last summer. One of its burls was saved and lovingly crafted by a local artisan into this beautiful woodturned and oil finished bowl. The unique characteristics of this bowl, along with all the history, make this item truly priceless. 

6. VILLA dei MULINI - Southern Tuscany, Italy

7 nights for up to 7 people
Una settimana bellissima! Spend a beautiful week at Villa dei Mulini overlooking Porto Ercole (Port of Hercules) on Monte Argentario. This volcanic mountain, linked to the mainland by long pine-backed sandy beaches, is a holiday retreat for wealthy Romans which also supports a local fishing industry, a wild boar hunt, and natural beauty.  Perched up high at the top of a one-lane drive, the house has a full-time chef and housekeeper, garden, and pool. You are an easy driving distance to the incredible hill towns of Pitigliano, Sorano, Siena, and Capalbio, the hot springs of Saturnia, and many other interesting half-day trips. However, you may choose to spend the morning walking on the beach and the rest at the house enjoying the panoramic view which includes three ancient forts and the coastline. 

The villa has 3 bedrooms which open onto a terrace;  a master with king-size bed and full bathroom en suite, and 2 twin-bedded rooms with a shared bathroom. Upstairs there are two smaller bedrooms-one with a full bed, and a shared bathroom. Ideal for 2 or 3 couples, or a family with a friend or two. 

Dates available: September 10th—October 15th 2024, or May 1—Jun 1 2025, or Sept 15-October 15th 2025. The most convenient airport is Rome Fiumicino and Porto Ercole is an easy two-hour drive north of Rome, straight up the coast.

Take the Historic Detroit Canals Tour! Guided by experts, you will depart in kayaks from Detroit River Sports and enjoy the sights and sounds of the water. You’ll spend your time learning the history of the river and the Eastside Canals, visiting Greyhaven Island and the Historic Fisher Mansion along the way. The tour finishes with a quiet paddle through the canals in southern Jefferson Chalmers. Following, you will enjoy a canal-side special du jour dinner at prominent Coriander Kitchen and Farm, with its farm to table fare. Includes one alcohol beverage per person. Chefs Andy Hollyday of Selden Standard, Dave Mancini of Supino, and Marc Djozlia of Wright & Co. will prepare a beautiful six-course meal with wine pairings and dessert. Honor & Folly is a lovely space with an open kitchen, placing you and your guests right next to the action for a lively, social experience with these three fun and talented chefs. 8 guests maximum. Sail the Detroit River and Lake St. Clair 
Join the Rebain family for an afternoon at the Detroit Yacht Club, making use of its amenities, including the pool. Afterwards, head to the docks where you will choose between a sail on a 37 foot sailboat or an excursion on their electric boat. Winners preference! Libations and local food items appropriate for the water excursion will be provided. Winner will arrange a mutually agreeable date with the donors. Must be used by September 29th, 2024.

About the artist: Cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason has established himself as "nothing less than the future of classical music" (NPR). Sheku Kanneh-Mason is a British cellist who won the 2016 BBC Young Musician award. He was the first Black musician to win the competition since its launch in 1978. He played at the wedding of Prince Harry to Meghan Markle on 19 May 2018 under the direction of Christopher Warren-Green. As of 2021, Kanneh-Mason plays a Matteo Goffriller cello that was made in 1700.
