Faculty: Sarah Addae

Sixth Grade Class Teacher

Sarah Addae first encountered Waldorf education in 1991 when the Detroit Public Schools created a public Waldorf inspired elementary school. She worked as a classroom aide and was moved to follow this type of education further. She received her teaching certificate from the University of Michigan in 1994 and her Waldorf certification in 1996. A class teacher for many years, she also took a seven year pause and in that time entered the seminary and became ordained as a Dharma teacher in the Zen Buddhist tradition. She has worked in many capacities at DWS: woodworking and art teacher, middle school math specialist, but mainly as a class teacher, having had the honor of working with five different classes as their class teacher. She has worked at the University of Michigan Wolverine Pathways program as an instructor and at Say Play Detroit as a lead teacher. She coordinates a meditation practice space in Detroit, Field Temple.
