Handwork Teacher Grades 1-2 and 5-8
Shannon Wong is currently teaching Handwork to grades 1-2 and 5-8 at the Detroit Waldorf School. Since childhood, she has been passionate about transforming materials and natural plants into clothing and other useful items. She enjoys helping children bring their inner visions to life. Ms. Wong graduated from The Fashion Institute of Technology in 2003 with a BFA in Fashion Design and a certicate in Pattern Making. Prior to teaching she worked as a clothing designer for Isabel & Ruben Toledo in NYC and helped bring their art to Detroit at the DIA exhibit “ToledoToledo: A Labor of Love.” She enjoys fostering the creative process as it emerges in each child, while helping them build determination for seeing the work through to its completion. Shannon helps students to reconnect with the land through the processes of planting seeds, tending plants, and gathering dye and fiber stuffs to be worked with their hands and transformed into their art.
